FAQs:

Q: Why do I have to sign up as a member before signing up as an artist?
A: Each artist/band can have several members assigned to them and therefore each user must have a separate profile. Each artist/band member will have access to the artist edit page.

Q: Who approves new group members?
A: Any member will be able to approve new artist/band members.

Q: Who has the ability to delete artist/band members?
A: The user who creates the artist page will be the only member able to delete other artist/band members.

Q: Who has the ability to edit artist information?
A: Any group member of the artist can edit information.

Q: What is a “battle ring”?
A: It is a page where people can listen and vote on current competitions. We have 8 battle rings- 7 which are broken down by genre and 1 “Intergenre Ring”.

Q: What is the difference between battle genre- and genre #1 & #2?
A: Battle genre identifies which battle ring your competition will take place in. Genre #1 & #2 simply list how you would describe your sound to the audience.

Q: Why do you only have 7 battle genres
A: As you know, music can be divided into many genres. Genres are often arbitrary and have overlap. This makes it difficult to break music into generic genres. We did the best we could, and each artist should assign a battle genre that they feel will contain the most comparable sub-genres. If you are unable to identify yourself with any of our battle genres, you can assign yourself as “Other”.

Q: Why can’t comedians battle with musicians?
A: We don’t feel it is possible to compare a comedy act to a music act.

Q: What is the “Intergenre Ring”?
A: We want our musicians to be able to challenge musicians of all genres, so the “Intergenre Ring” houses battles between artists of different “battle genres”. For example: if a pop artist is battling a rock artist- the competition will take place in the “Intergenre Ring”.

Q: How is voting monitored?
A: We use a multi-monitoring system based on IP, user ID and email address.

Q: How long is each competition?
A: 5 days.

Q: How long does it take for a challenge to begin?
A: 24 hours after the challenge is accepted.

Q: How many times can I vote on a single competition?
A: Once every 24 hours/ per competition. Remember competitions begin 24 hours after acceptance, and therefore the 24 hour period we are monitoring will vary per competition.

Q: So if I can vote once per day on each competition- that means I can vote 5 times throughout the five days? Why?
A: That is correct. Although we DO want the best bands to win, and want each competition to be judged fairly, we also want to reward those who use the site most frequently.

Q: Is there a limit on challenging other Artists?
A: You are allowed up to 5 outbound challenges at a time, but an unlimited number of Artists may challenge you. You can cancel outbound challenges at any time on your Artist's "Edit Profile" page. However, once a challenge is accepted it cannot be cancelled.

Q: Why won’t my track work?
A: The SoundSpar player only accepts MP3 files only. Please make sure your track is an MP3.

Q: What if a battle has begun and my track is not working?
A: Artist's do not have the ability to cancel a challenge once it has been accepted. However, it is impossible to have a fair competition if both tracks are not streaming properly. If you realize that this is the case, please email contact@soundspar.com and someone on the SoundSpar staff can investigate and cancel the challenge if deemed appropriate. Please keep in mind that it is a good idea to make sure that your track is working correctly before challenging others or accepting any challenges.

Q: What is the point scoring system?
A: You will be rewarded 5 points for a win, 2 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. Stay tuned for future rewards for those who have accrued a significant number of points.

Q: What is the "Join Corner" feature?
A: By joining an Artist's "Corner" you will receive email alerts everytime they are about to go into battle. This will help you to track your favorite Artist's progress on the site. The Artists that you have selected to be a "Cornerman" for will be displayed on your User Page. The Artist can view who has "Joined their Corner" by visiting the Edit Profile page.
